Attic Salt Theatre Company, the team who produced 2013’s comedy hit All in the Timing and 2014’s acclaimed God of Carnage and this summer’s smash The Underpants, is pleased to announce open auditions for the Tony-award winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, at 35below in Downtown Asheville. 35below is located at 35 East Walnut St. Auditions will be held from 3 to 6pm on the 9th of August, and from 6 to 9pm on the 11th. Callbacks will be held in a different venue (to be announced at the auditions) from 6 to 9pm on August 12th.
The company is seeking 4 female and 2 male actors of any type and race, who fit a role in the following breakdown:
Vanya – Male, 40s/50s living in Bucks County, PA. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia.
Sonia – Female, his stepsister, 40s/50s, living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful.

Masha – Female, his sister, 40s/50s, a glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.

Spike – Male, an aspiring actor, 20s, sexy, self-absorbed, Masha’s new companion. Must be comfortable wearing only underwear onstage.

Cassandra – Female, cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age. Excellent comic timing required.

Nina – Female, a lovely, sincere would-be actress. 20s, star struck and energetic.

This show is a real showcase for strong actors and those with expert comedic timing are encouraged to attend. The play will be presented at NC Stage Company as part of their Catalyst series and pay will be a percentage of the box office.
Those auditioning should bring a headshot and resume (if they have one) and a sense of humor. Monologues and sides from the play will be provided at the audition.

The play will be directed by Jeff Catanese and will rehearse evenings throughout September and October, with nightly rehearsals required from November 1st until opening on the 6th. The play runs from November 6th through the 22nd, with performances Fridays through Saturdays at 7:30pm, and Sunday matinees at 2:30pm. There will be an additional performance on November 12th at 7:30pm.

For more information, interested parties can contact the Asheville community Theatre box office at or call 828-254-1320.

Nominated for six Tony Awards, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is one of the most lauded and beloved Broadway plays of recent years. Vanya and his adopted sister Sonia live a quiet life in the Pennsylvania farmhouse where they grew up, but their peace is disturbed when their movie star sister Masha returns unannounced with her twenty-something boy toy, Spike. A weekend of rivalry, regret, and raucousness begins.
“Best Play” Awards won by Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won include the 2013 Tony Award Outer Circle Critics Award, Drama League Award, Drama Desk Award, New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Production, and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award.
