The South Carolina Theatre Association is pleased to announce its three Keynote presenters for Convention 2015 “Redefining the Triple Threat: Performance, Education, Production” hosted by Furman University November 5-8.
The Broadway Veteran and newly elected president of Actors’ Equity Association Kate Shindle (Broadway’s “Legally blonde,” “Wonderland”) will be the performance keynote at Convention 2015.
“SCTA is honored to bring high caliber keynotes to such an arts loving city like Greenville for the first time in almost 30 years,” said SCTA Board Vice-President and Program Chair, Harry Culpepper Jr., “Kate will present a keynote and two masterclasses during convention.”
Kate’s Broadway Credits include: Originating the role of the Mad Hatter in WONDERLAND and Vivienne Kensington in LEGALLY BLONDE as well as Sally Bowles in CABARET and JEKYLL AND HYDE. She was also crowned Miss America 1998, was a Theatre Major at Northwestern University and a graduate of the Stella Adler Conservatory.
Ms. Shindle will also be offering a Masterclass to Upstate Actors on the Actors’ Equity Association at the Warehouse Theatre on Saturday, November 7. This masterclass is free for association members and a nominal charge for non-members.
Tony Award winning costumer designer, Gregg Barnes will be Production Keynote Speaker. Mr. Barnes current designs are featured in Broadway’s “Aladdin,” “Tuck Everlasting,” and “Something Rotten.” He received the Tony Award in costume design for “The Drowsy Chaperone” in 2006 and the revival of “Follies” in 2011. He was most recently nominated for “Kinky Boots” and “Something Rotten.”
Tony Award “Excellence in Theatre Education Award” Winner Corey Mitchell will be Education Keynote Speaker. Mr. Mitchell is a Theater Arts Teacher at the Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte, N.C.
