The Warehouse Theatre’s Upstate Shakespeare Festival Has Exciting Shakespeare Trifecta This Summer

This season marks the 23rd summer that the Upstate Shakespeare Festival has presented FREE productions of the Bard’s works for Upstate audiences.

The Bard’s most popular comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will run for a record-setting five weeks
May 25-June 25 at River Falls Park. Shows are Thursday-Sunday at 7 p.m. weather permitting.

Directed by the indomitable John Fagan, this play follows two groups of “foolish mortals” into the Athenian Woods, only to encounter a bunch of mischievous fairies. Who falls in love with whom? Why does the Queen of the Fairies fall for a boaster with a donkey’s head? And just who is that “merry wanderer of the night?”

Then, USF presents the Bard’s tragedy with the highest body count (14), “Titus Andronicus” July 13-30. Also directed by Mr. Fagan, Shakespeare’s early Roman Drama delves into the themes of tragic madness and endless revenge. In this jaw-dropping tale we witness the bloody rivalry between Titus’s noble Roman family and Tamora, the Queen of the Goths, and her family. In the balance lies Rome and its very existence. This Shakespearean rarity promises to be an exciting evening for Festival audiences! FREE at River Falls Park. Shows are Thursday-Sunday at 7 p.m. weather permitting.

And finally, get a sneak peek at The Warehouse Theatre’s touring production of “Othello” July 20-August 6 at The Warehouse Main Stage. What happens when evil and manipulation are loosed upon a world where inequity and jealousy already reign? When suspicion, xenophobia, and distrust flourish, how can love survive? How can we decipher the truth when lies and deceit become commonplace, and a person’s word is no longer their bond?  There is an admission fee for this event.
