The Show Will Go On!
First GLOW Lyric Theatre leaves the Younts Center for the Performing Arts, and now FIRE Theatre is in danger of being extinguished by the Fountain Inn City Council.
The revitalization of downtown Fountain Inn and its arts community has taken a step backwards this week as the Fountain Inn officials pulled funding support for FIRE Theatre’s Season 9 finale production of Stephen Schwartz’s “Godspell” and would only allow one single farewell performance.
Earlier this week, word got out and supporters flooded a Fountain Inn budget workshop meeting and city officials were convinced to let the show go in with five performances over two weekends, Mother’s Day aside.
The fate of FIRE Theatre and FIREside Radio is still unknown. And it is unknown at this point if funding cuts await the Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra and the Fountain Inn Chorale.
Carolina Curtain Call will update this report as information comes in.
Again, “Godspell” will run Fridays and Saturdays, May 12-13 and May 19-20 at 7:30 p.m. and for one matinee at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 21 at the Younts Center for Performing Arts, 315 N Main St. in Fountain Inn. Call (864) 409-1050 or visit www.yountscenter.org.
