A PART EQUAL: Women and Mr Shakespeare at Converse College @ Converse College - Hazel B. Abbott Theatre
Nov 18 @ 7:30 pm

A PART EQUAL, Women and Mr Shakespeare. Nov 15-19, Converse College
A new play by Derek Davidson.
Everyone knows who William Shakespeare was, but how many know Judith Quiney? Or Margaret Hughes, or Nancy Hallam, or Edwina Booth Grossman? That Shakespeare wrote some of the greatest female roles in theatrical history is not to be doubted, but what about the untold numbers of women—mother, daughters, countless actors, writers, artists—who were instrumental in the creation of his character? Who helped forge his personality, advance his reputation, secure his place at the pinnacle of human artistic achievement? A Part Equal allows a few of these women to speak on their own behalf, either in imagined scenes, or voicing the actual words of some extraordinary individuals spanning the last four centuries, as have been preserved in letters, diaries, memoirs. Come enjoy the company of these exciting, funny, sexy, remarkable women, without whom, we argue, there would have been no William Shakespeare.

‘Midnight Pillow’ at USC Upstate @ USC Upstate Performing Arts Center
Nov 18 @ 8:00 pm

“Midnight Pillow,” a series of collected Shakespeare scenes, was conceived and edited by Stephen Unwin, the founder of the English Touring Company. The selected scenes often explore the varied relationships between pairs of young lovers. Stephen comes to us fresh from the success of the production of his play, “All Our Children”, at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London. Having authored several volumes on Shakespeare and directed many of the Bard’s works, he brings extensive expertise to our season. He also championed the initial collaboration between The Rose Theatre in London and the Shoestring Players that provides Upstate students the opportunity to complete internships in London. He is the former Artistic Director of The Rose Theatre.

Performances will be held in the Main Stage Theatre of the Performing Arts Center
