Sketch Night: Original Scripted Comedy

Saturdays at 9 p.m.

The second half of the show will feature improv comedy. It’s a chance for our audience to see the comedy the first time we see them, live on stage!

The AU Repertory Theatre presents two productions this week as part of the Anderson Theatre Festival.

This unique program now in its fifth year allows Anderson University Theatre majors to mentor area high school students in an intensive three-week theatre camp.  At the end of the experience, the students produce two full-length plays in rolling rep.  Normally, the season includes one classical piece and one story-based piece.

This year’s double-bill includes “Treasure Island” adapted by Byrony Lavery and William Shakespeare’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” directed by Drew Kenyon.

This year eight AU students are acting as teaching artists and contributing to the program: two student directors, a stage-manager, a shop foreman, a costume designer, a props master, a scenic painter, a lighting designer and a composer/musician.

There are 19 students from local high schools enrolled in the program and they will each receive 1 hour of transferrable college credit.

“Treasure Island” continues Friday, June 30 and “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” plays on Thursday, June 29 and Saturday, July 1. All performances are at 7:30 p.m. at the Belk Theatre at Anderson University, 316 Boulevard in Anderson.

You can see both shows for $15! Or one for $10. Call the AU Box Office at (864) 231-2125 or visit www.schoolofthearts.com.
