You can go your own way but make sure that “way” is towards the Rock downtown this fall! Experience a night of nostalgia as Flat Rock Playhouse presents The Music of Fleetwood Mac running from September 29th until October 9th at the Playhouse Downtown in Hendersonville.

Selling over 70 million albums to date, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Fleetwood Mac is one of the best selling groups of all time. Featuring the timeless hits “Go Your Own Way,” “Dreams,” and “Landslide,” The Music of Fleetwood Mac takes the audience back in time to experience the legendary music loved for over 40 years.

Your favorite music from this 70s band will be relived through the cast of The Music of Fleetwood Mac. This flashback in music history will comprise of Dustin Brayley, Meredith Patterson, Katie Ciluffo and Ryan Guerra and as vocalists. The band is made up of both Brayley and Guerra on guitar, Mike Edney on bass, David Gaines on synthesizer, and Jim Black on drums.

The Music of Fleetwood Mac consists of Adam Goodrum as Production Manager and Alex Shields as Music Director. CJ Barnwell and Kurt Conway will be Light and Sound Designers respectively.

TICKETS AND SCHEDULE

The Music of Fleetwood Mac will run from September 29th until October 9th at the Playhouse Downtown. Performances Thursday evening at 7:30PM, Friday and Saturday evening at 8:00PM, and matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2:00PM. oct-8-asheville-choraleJames Whitbourn’s Annelies is the first major choral setting of the diary of Anne Frank, which has inspired millions since it was published in 1947. Premiered in London in 2005, Annelies was praised for its “woundingly beautiful” music and an extraordinary and moving libretto that captures Anne’s keen observations and indomitable spirit. It brings the story to life with echoes of church bells, popular music, and with music from Frank’s Jewish and German heritage.

asheville-opera-logojpgOn October 9th at 3pm, end your weekend with Asheville Lyric Opera  at Pack Square Park. This is a chance for you and your family to enjoy the classical music made accessible by ALO in Western North Carolina.
Pack a picnic, and bring a blanket; this music will make you want to stick around. Children’s choir, guitar pieces, and duets will fill the park. Enter your name into our raffle, and get a chance to win some exclusive prizes for yourself, or for your family!

Throughout the afternoon, our volunteers will be the judges of picnic baskets, and this year, a prize will go to the “Most Unexpected Picnic”! Be it a beanbag in place of a lawn chair, or a chicken curry instead of chicken salad, make your picnic surprising, and we might surprise you!

Music Foundation of WNC Presents Free Concerts to Benefit Hendersonville Community Theatre @ Hendersonville Community Theatre

The Music Foundation of Western North Carolina will present three free concerts this month to benefit the Hendersonville Community Theatre. The “2nd Annual Benefit Concert Series” will be Jan. 14 (classical piano solos), Jan. 15 (classical piano and clarinet), and Jan. 27 (classical/jazz). Each is free and will be held at the theater, 229 S. Washington Street in Hendersonville.

Christopher Tavernier, a 16-year-old concert pianist and native of Hendersonville, will be the featured performer for two back-to-back coffee-themed performances.

The first concert, “A Rich Blend of Piano Solo Classics,” will be Saturday, Jan. 14, at 4 p.m. and will feature some of the most noted and popular classical piano solos from the Baroque, Romantic, and Modern periods, including J.S. Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in F minor, BWV 881;” Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Sonata in C Major, Op. 53 Waldstein;” Frederic Chopin’s “Nocturne in C minor, Op. 48, No. 1;” Franz Liszt’s “Saint Francis of Paola Walking on the Waves;” and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Sonata No. 7 in B flat Major, Op. 83.”
The second concert, “Cappuccino: A Rich Swiss Blend of Clarinet & Piano,” will be Sunday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m. Tavernier and local clarinetist Matthew Hanna will perform both solos and duets, the most noted being the modern classic “Sonata for Clarinet in B-flat and Piano” by the late French composer Francis Jean Marcel Poulenc, who wrote the piece in honor of his friend Swiss composer Arthur Honegger in 1962.
Also on the program are several other selections, both solos and duets. The solos will include three clarinet pieces by Igor Stravinsky, “Fantasie” by Jorg Widmann, and “Rhapsody for Clarinet” by Willson Osborne. The piano solos will be Sergei Prokofiev’s “Sonata No. 7 in B flat Major, Op. 83” and Claude Debussy’s “Reflections in the Water.” And the duets will be four short pieces by Howard Ferguson, and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise for Clarinet and Piano Op. 34 No. 14.”

 

The third and final concert, “New Orleans Baroque,” in the series will be Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. Performing will be Rita Hayes on flute, Karen Sams on piano, Keith Freeburg on double bass, and Morgen Cobb on drums. The ensemble will perform Claude Bolling’s “Suite No. 2 for Flute and Jazz Trio,” which consists of eight pieces that offer a heady mix of American jazz and French classical. This crossover composition was written in 1973, and its recording in 1975 was nominated for a Grammy Award. It paved the way for “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio No. 2” in 1986.

Asheville Symphony Chorus, Asheville Choral Society Unite for ‘Music of Light and Life’

The Asheville Symphony Chorus and Asheville Choral Society will join together on Saturday, April 29, 2017 to present Music of Light and Life, a concert featuring major works of two contemporary American composers who are favorites of choral singers the world around. The concert will be held in Arden, NC, a location convenient to Western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina, and we would love to have you join us for this collaborative undertaking to bring epic, moving choral music to our area. Requiem for the Living is a beautiful and soaring testament to the hope for comfort and the joy of life by Dan Forrest, a prodigious young composer from Greenville, SC, with a growing worldwide reputation.

Lux Aeterna (“eternal light”) by Morten Lauridsen paints the words of reassurance and comfort “may eternal light shine upon them” with a lush and moving texture of choral sound. It’s no wonder that this gorgeous piece has earned world renown, with the sublime O Nata Lux movement echoing the tender and beautiful O Magnum Mysterium.

The concert will be on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Arden Presbyterian Church, 2215 Hendersonville Road. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students, and are available at www.AshevilleSymphonyChorus.comwww.AshevilleChoralSociety.org or at the door.
