Annelies by Asheville Choral Society @ Central United Methodist Church
Oct 8 @ 7:30 pm

oct-8-asheville-choraleJames Whitbourn’s Annelies is the first major choral setting of the diary of Anne Frank, which has inspired millions since it was published in 1947. Premiered in London in 2005, Annelies was praised for its “woundingly beautiful” music and an extraordinary and moving libretto that captures Anne’s keen observations and indomitable spirit. It brings the story to life with echoes of church bells, popular music, and with music from Frank’s Jewish and German heritage.

The Asheville Choral Society wishes to thank the sponsors of this concert: Asheville Women’s Medical Center and Givens Highland Farms.

Asheville Symphony Chorus, Asheville Choral Society Unite for ‘Music of Light and Life’
Apr 29 @ 7:30 pm

The Asheville Symphony Chorus and Asheville Choral Society will join together on Saturday, April 29, 2017 to present Music of Light and Life, a concert featuring major works of two contemporary American composers who are favorites of choral singers the world around. The concert will be held in Arden, NC, a location convenient to Western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina, and we would love to have you join us for this collaborative undertaking to bring epic, moving choral music to our area. More information on the program is below.

Requiem for the Living is a beautiful and soaring testament to the hope for comfort and the joy of life by Dan Forrest, a prodigious young composer from Greenville, SC, with a growing worldwide reputation.

Lux Aeterna (“eternal light”) by Morten Lauridsen paints the words of reassurance and comfort “may eternal light shine upon them” with a lush and moving texture of choral sound. It’s no wonder that this gorgeous piece has earned world renown, with the sublime O Nata Lux movement echoing the tender and beautiful O Magnum Mysterium.

The concert will be on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Arden Presbyterian Church, 2215 Hendersonville Road. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students, and are available at www.AshevilleSymphonyChorus.comwww.AshevilleChoralSociety.org or at the door.
