Pearland Hit-and-Run: Rider Injured and Horse Euthanized After Crash

Authorities in Pearland are actively searching for the driver of a white sedan involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the euthanization of a horse and left its rider injured on Saturday night.

The crash occurred around 7:38 p.m. on Dec. 14, in the 1800 block of O’Day Road. According to the Pearland Police Department, a small white sedan struck both the horse and its rider before fleeing the scene, heading northbound without stopping to render aid.

The impact of the collision caused severe injuries to the horse, which was immediately euthanized at the scene to prevent further suffering. The rider, who sustained injuries from the crash, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, authorities reported that the rider is currently recovering from their injuries, though the extent of the injuries remains undisclosed.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Pearland police discovered a passenger-side mirror assembly at the scene, which could serve as an important clue in identifying the suspect’s vehicle. Surveillance footage from a nearby residence captured the collision and provided authorities with a clearer picture of the incident. Based on this footage, investigators believe the suspect’s vehicle will show substantial front-end damage, particularly on the passenger side, and will be missing the passenger-side mirror.

Pearland Police are urging residents and business owners in the area to review any surveillance footage from Dec. 14, between 7:30 and 8 p.m., to help identify the white sedan involved in the hit-and-run. Authorities hope that the damage to the car will be visible, and any information or additional footage could be key in locating the driver responsible for this tragic incident.

In a public statement, the Pearland Police Department appealed to the community for assistance, asking anyone who might have seen the crash or has information about the vehicle to come forward. The police are encouraging anyone with footage or tips to contact the Pearland Police Department Criminal Investigations Tip Line at 281-997-4211 and reference Case #24-011006.

The hit-and-run has shocked the local community, and authorities are hopeful that public assistance can help bring the responsible individual to justice. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of driver responsibility and the tragic consequences that can occur when drivers fail to stop after an accident.

As the investigation continues, police have emphasized the need for the community to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that could help in locating the suspect. The Pearland Police Department is committed to solving this case and holding the driver accountable for the harm caused to both the horse and its rider.

Residents with any information are urged to reach out and contribute to the investigation, as the search for the driver responsible for this hit-and-run continues.
