Humane Pennsylvania is marking National Change A Pet’s Life Day by hosting a special three-day, fee-waived adoption event from Friday, January 24, to Sunday, January 26. Sponsored by Silverbox Creative Studio, the event aims to find loving homes for shelter animals while raising awareness about pet adoption and the needs of shelter animals.
This heartwarming initiative encourages potential pet parents to open their homes to dogs, cats, and critters from Humane Pennsylvania’s Berks and Lancaster County shelter campuses. The event has already gained attention as a perfect way to change the lives of animals and families alike.

Mittens
Mittens, a 2-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat, has a history of preferring the indoors. Though he’s good with outdoor cats, his compatibility with dogs is unknown. Mittens is waiting to meet his potential family at the Freedom Center in Reading.

Phoebe, a sweet 4-month-old rabbit, came into the shelter with her siblings and father as part of an unexpected litter. Social and friendly, Phoebe and her family are ready for a home that can provide the love and care they deserve.
The Importance of Pet Adoption
National Change A Pet’s Life Day was created to highlight the importance of adoption and encourage people to give shelter animals a second chance at life. For many potential adopters, adoption fees can be a hurdle, but thanks to Silverbox Creative Studio’s sponsorship, that barrier has been removed for this event.
Susan Sidoriak of Silverbox Creative Studio explained, “Adoption fees can often be a hurdle for potential pet parents, and by sponsoring them, we hope to remove that barrier and give these animals the second chance they deserve. Pets bring joy, love, and connection into our lives, and this event is the perfect way to celebrate that.”
Event Success and Process
In 2024, the event helped 29 animals find their forever homes, showcasing its success and impact. Humane Pennsylvania’s thorough adoption screening process ensures every pet is placed in a safe and loving environment. Although approval is not guaranteed, this step is vital to match pets with the right families.
