Denied Roof Claim? See How This Winston-Salem Homeowner Got Her Insurance to Pay

Winston-Salem Homeowner Gets Insurance to Pay for New Roof After Denied Claim

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WFMY) – A Winston-Salem homeowner, Sytrania Williams, faced a tough situation when her insurance company initially denied her claim for a new roof after a storm caused significant damage to her home. After several struggles with the insurance company, Williams turned to WFMY News 2 for help, and the outcome was a happy one.

Here’s the story of how Williams managed to get her claim approved and secure a new roof for her home.

Roof Damaged by Storm

Owning a home comes with many responsibilities, and one of the most expensive ones is replacing the roof when it’s damaged. For Sytrania Williams, the need for a new roof came after a severe storm. She called in a roofing company, which confirmed that the roof had been severely damaged by wind and hail.

Williams explained, “The roofers found that the storm had caused damage due to the strong winds and hail.”

Insurance Denies Full Roof Replacement

After getting the news from the roofing company, Williams filed a claim with her insurance provider, hoping they would cover the cost of a full roof replacement. However, after an adjuster inspected the damage, the insurance company only agreed to cover the replacement of 22 shingles.

Williams was frustrated by the decision. “They said they would only cover 22 shingles, and that’s it” she explained.

But Williams didn’t give up. She knew her roof needed more than just a few shingles replaced, so she contacted a second roofing company for another opinion. The second company agreed that the damage was extensive enough to warrant replacing the entire roof.

“It was very frustrating,” Williams shared. “Both roofing companies said the roof needed to be completely replaced, but the insurance company was only offering to replace a few shingles.”

Financial Strain and the Need for Help

The cost of replacing the entire roof was about $6,800. With the insurance company only willing to cover the cost of 22 shingles, Williams was left with a bill of almost $6,000. “I didn’t have that kind of money,” she said, feeling the financial strain of the situation.

Reaching Out for Help

Feeling desperate, Williams reached out to WFMY News 2 for assistance. Our Call for Action team immediately began reviewing the roof inspections from both companies. We contacted the insurance company and asked them to explain why they were only covering part of the damage.

After reviewing the situation, a representative from the insurance company agreed to reassess the claim. They promised to get back to us and Williams.

Happy Ending: Full Claim Approved

Just a few weeks later, Williams received a phone call from the insurance company. The representative informed her that they would now cover the entire cost of replacing her roof.

“I’m so grateful for the help,” Williams said. “I want to say thank you!”

A roofing crew came out soon after, and the new roof was installed. Williams could now rest easy, knowing that her home was protected from the elements, and she didn’t have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket.

“I’m so happy with my new roof,” she said, her voice filled with relief and gratitude.

Lessons Learned

Williams’ story is a reminder of how important it is to advocate for yourself when dealing with insurance claims. While her first claim was denied, she didn’t give up. By getting a second opinion, reaching out for help, and pushing for fairness, she was able to get the roof replacement she needed.

This case also highlights the importance of working with trusted professionals and seeking help when things don’t go as planned. Thanks to WFMY News 2’s Call for Action team, Williams was able to get the resolution she deserved, and she can now enjoy peace of mind with her new roof.
