Second Arrest Made in Charlotte Christmas Crash Turned Homicide

Charlotte, N.C. – Police have arrested a second suspect following the tragic death of Kennedi Jones in a car crash on December 25 in Charlotte. The incident, which initially seemed like an accident, has now developed into a full-blown homicide investigation.

Details of the Arrest

On January 7, James Mason was taken into custody in connection with the case. Court records indicate Mason is accused of stealing Jones’ bookbag and iPhone while allegedly threatening her with a gun. He is expected to appear in court on January 8.

This marks the second arrest in the case. The first suspect, 21-year-old Dreshon Jibri Moreno, was previously charged with Jones’ murder. Moreno faces additional charges, including robbery with a dangerous weapon, for allegedly threatening Jones with a gun and stealing her phone.

What Happened?

The tragic incident occurred on Shamrock Drive near Hickory Grove Road and North Sharon Amity Road. Around 11:20 p.m. on December 25, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) found a vehicle off the road in an embankment.

Kennedi Jones, the driver, was discovered inside the car with life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed her death due to the injuries sustained in the crash.

Legal Proceedings

Moreno made his first court appearance on January 2, where he was assigned a public defender. He remains in custody without bond and is scheduled for another court appearance on January 22.

Mason’s role in the incident and his connection to Moreno are still under investigation.
