CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The New Year’s Eve celebrations in Uptown Charlotte saw 18 people arrested and six firearms seized. Despite the arrests, the event concluded without any major incidents, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
Among the 18 individuals arrested, 8 were adults, while 10 were juveniles aged between 10 and 15 years. In addition to the arrests, CMPD officers conducted 10 home visits to check on juveniles with prior offenses. Thankfully, none of these individuals committed any offenses on New Year’s Eve.
The juvenile charges involved violations such as the Youth Protection Ordinance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The police also confirmed that the parents or guardians of the juveniles arrested were charged with contributing to delinquency and neglect.
Below is a breakdown of the adults who were arrested:
- Murray Edwards, 42: Charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Disorderly Conduct.
- Rassell Young, 18: Charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, and Possession of Marijuana.
- Jergio Jesus Pavon-Reyes, 18: Charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
- Kaheem Brower, 28: Charged with Affray.
- Donaven McCoy, 29: Charged with Affray.
- Dashawn Douglas, 29: Charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
- Treshawn Goff, 27: Charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
- Genesis Roland, 19: Charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, and Possession of Marijuana.
Despite the arrests, authorities emphasized that the celebration remained peaceful, and there were no major disruptions reported. The police department remains focused on maintaining safety and order, especially during large public gatherings.
While the night saw a number of arrests, the police praised their proactive approach in ensuring no further incidents occurred, particularly by monitoring prior juvenile offenders. This shows that law enforcement was actively working to prevent any escalation during the night of festivities.
In the days following the celebrations, CMPD officials reminded the public to stay vigilant and avoid engaging in any unlawful activities. With the arrests made, officials say that the response from law enforcement was swift and effective in maintaining peace in the Uptown area.
