New Year’s Eve Plans? Here’s How Coastal North Carolina’s Weather Could Impact You

Newport, NC – Coastal North Carolina is starting the week on a pleasant note with sunny skies and mild temperatures, but weather changes are on the horizon as New Year’s Eve draws closer. Residents should brace for rain on Tuesday and much colder nights as a cold front makes its way into the region.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday kicks off with highs around 65 degrees, light winds at 5 to 7 mph, and mostly sunny skies. This tranquil weather offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities before the weather takes a turn.

Tuesday: Rain and Wind on the Way

Tuesday is expected to see temperatures peaking at 70 degrees by the afternoon, but conditions will change quickly as the day progresses. Rain chances increase significantly after 1 p.m., and gusty winds up to 20 mph are expected. This may put a damper on New Year’s Eve plans for some residents, so carrying an umbrella and preparing for possible delays is recommended.

Drivers should exercise caution as showers could create slick road conditions. If you’re planning outdoor festivities, it’s wise to monitor the weather closely and have backup indoor plans.

Colder Nights Begin

After the rain, temperatures will drop sharply, with nighttime lows dipping to 46 degrees by Tuesday night. The cooling trend will persist into New Year’s Day, with daytime highs reaching only 57 degrees. Although clear skies are expected, gusts up to 23 mph will make it feel much colder.

Midweek Brings Freezing Nights

The chill deepens by midweek. Wednesday night’s temperatures could fall to a brisk 33 degrees. Daytime highs will hover around 51 degrees on Thursday and 54 degrees on Friday, accompanied by sunny skies. However, lows near the freezing point will remind residents that winter is in full swing.

What Residents Should Do

  • Stay Updated: Keep an eye on local weather forecasts, especially if you have outdoor plans for New Year’s Eve.
  • Prepare for the Cold: Layer up and keep blankets handy to stay warm during the colder nights.
  • Drive Safely: Rain on Tuesday may cause slippery roads, so drive carefully and allow extra time to reach your destination.
  • Backup Plans: If your New Year’s Eve celebration involves being outdoors, consider preparing for an indoor alternative.

The mix of rain and chilly weather serves as a reminder to plan ahead and stay informed.
