North Carolina New Year’s Weather: Rain, Storms Sunday, Sunshine Monday

Wilmington, NC – Residents of Southeastern North Carolina are gearing up for some rain on Sunday, but don’t worry—sunshine will take over just in time for the New Year’s celebrations!

According to the National Weather Service, expect wet conditions to start the weekend, with showers hitting early on Sunday. These showers are expected to intensify into thunderstorms by the afternoon. Temperatures will hover around 72°F, accompanied by gusty southeast winds reaching up to 22 mph. Coastal areas and roads, such as N.C. 133, may receive heavy rainfall, possibly nearing three-quarters of an inch. Drivers, be cautious! Rain may reduce visibility, and roads could become slippery.

The good news comes on Monday when the weather takes a turn for the better. Clear skies will return, with temperatures rising to a comfortable 67°F, making it perfect for outdoor activities. The sunny weather will continue into New Year’s Day, with temperatures around 61°F, ensuring a pleasant start to 2025.

As the week progresses, cooler temperatures will settle in. By Wednesday night, the lows will dip into the mid-30s, giving a hint of winter’s chill. Thursday and Friday will bring highs in the low 50s, marking a crisp, cool start to the new year.

So, whether you’re planning to travel or host a holiday gathering, it’s important to plan ahead for the changing weather conditions, especially on Sunday. Stay informed by keeping an eye on updated forecasts, and be ready to adjust your plans if necessary for the rain.
