At just 16 years old, Chance, a young man living in a group home, carries the weight of uncertainty about his future. With only two years left before he ages out of foster care, Chance’s Christmas wish is simple yet profound: to find a loving, supportive adoptive family.
“I just really want a family before I age out and it’s too late,” Chance shared, expressing his hopes for a stable support system as he transitions into adulthood. “I want to have somebody just in case when I get of age, I start to fall down and need somewhere to go. That’s really my dream.”
A Young Dreamer with Big Aspirations
Chance’s dreams extend beyond finding a family. Inspired by his passion for history and the military, he envisions a future as a U.S. Army pilot. His visit to The Price of Freedom Museum in China Grove brought this aspiration to life. Surrounded by 2,000 military uniforms and over 5,000 artifacts, Chance said, “It’s wonderful. I’m happy because I get to see all this history in one big place.”
His self-taught knowledge of the military, garnered through extensive reading, impressed museum President Bobby Harrison during a guided tour. Chance expressed awe at the sacrifices of service members and the advancements in military technology.
A Bright Future, If Given the Chance
Describing himself as smart, kind, and lovable, Chance takes pride in his growth over the years. Once struggling, he is now an “A” and “B” student excelling in school. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Just to see how much I’ve grown in the past few years is kind of crazy.”
Chance’s hope is clear: to connect with a family who will see him for who he truly is and provide the love and stability he longs for.
