What Led to the Shooting
The incident began Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle reportedly drove onto a sidewalk at high speed near Post Street and Kearny Street, hitting two pedestrians — a woman and a young girl. The driver then continued on and struck a bicyclist near Kearny and Sutter Street before fleeing the scene.
Responding officers provided first aid to the injured pedestrians until paramedics arrived. Both were transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police were unable to locate the injured bicyclist at the time.
Police Response
Hours after the initial incident, officers found the suspect’s vehicle near Union Square. They set up a perimeter and devised a plan to approach the vehicle safely. During the encounter, police said the driver was armed, leading officers to shoot him.
Paramedics transported the suspect to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
