SC Ports has donated $25,000 to the Lowcountry Food Bank to help support its mission of feeding those in need, especially as the holiday season approaches. The food bank, along with its partner agencies, provides meals to more than 200,000 residents in the Lowcountry region each year.
SC Ports President and CEO Barbara Melvin emphasized the importance of giving back, particularly during the holidays. โSC Ports prioritizes being a good neighbor year-round, but the holidays are an especially important time to support those in our community who are experiencing food insecurity,โ Melvin said. She also praised the Lowcountry Food Bank for its dedication to ensuring that families in need can put food on their tables.
The impact of every donation is significant, as every dollar given to the nonprofit helps create five meals. Last year, the Lowcountry Food Bank distributed an impressive 18 million pounds of fresh produce, alongside 42.8 million pounds of food and essential items to support families in need.
