St. Vincent Wins 3 Grammys, Honors Wife & Daughter, and Performs in Wildfire Relief Tribute

Oklahoma-born musician St. Vincent, also known as Annie Clark, had an unforgettable night at the 67th Grammy Awards. The acclaimed artist won three Grammy Awards and took part in the star-studded opening performance of the CBS telecast.

A Night of Victories for St. Vincent

St. Vincent, who grew up in Dallas but refers to Tulsa as her “OG hometown,” entered the awards night with four nominations for her self-produced album All Born Screaming. Released under her own label, Total Pleasure Records, the album showcased her unique musical style and artistic vision.

Before the official televised event, St. Vincent secured three Grammy wins at the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony:

  • Best Alternative Music Album for All Born Screaming
  • Best Rock Song for Broken Man
  • Best Alternative Music Performance for Flea

However, she missed out on the Best Rock Performance category, which went to The Beatles for their final “new” song, Now and Then.

While accepting her Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance, St. Vincent expressed her gratitude, calling the moment an “embarrassment of riches.”

A Heartfelt Moment: St. Vincent Thanks Her Wife and Daughter

One of the biggest surprises of the evening came during the pre-telecast ceremony when St. Vincent publicly thanked her wife and daughter for the first time.

“This is a real delight. First, I want to thank my beautiful family: my beautiful wife, Leia, and our beautiful daughter,” she said while accepting her Best Rock Song Grammy.

Although St. Vincent publicly came out as queer in 2014, she had never made an official announcement about her marriage or having a child. Her words took fans by surprise, sparking discussions across social media.

She later thanked her wife and daughter again while accepting the Best Alternative Music Album award. She also took a moment to acknowledge her fellow nominees.

“I want to say, to every other nominee in this category, you f—ing rip. I love you all so much. It’s an honor just to be in the same world where you all exist,” she said.

Reflecting on the hard work behind the album, she compared making music to construction work:

“This record was obviously a labor of love. Making records is like building a house when you have no floor plans and you don’t know what wood or concrete is.”

With these three wins, St. Vincent has now doubled her career Grammy count. Her previous Grammy victories include:

  • 2014 – St. Vincent – Best Alternative Music Album
  • 2019 – Masseduction – Best Rock Song
  • 2022 – Daddy’s Home – Best Alternative Music Album

A Star-Studded Grammy Opener for Wildfire Relief

Hosted by Trevor Noah for the fifth consecutive year, the Grammys this year had a strong charitable focus. With wildfires devastating Los Angeles, the event was restructured to raise funds for MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, which supports music professionals affected by the crisis.

To honor wildfire-affected communities, the awards show opened with a special performance featuring St. Vincent, Dawes, Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, Sheryl Crow, and John Legend. Together, they performed Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.”

This opening performance was deeply personal for some of the artists. Taylor Goldsmith (lead singer of Dawes) lost his home studio and much of the band’s equipment in the wildfires, while his brother Griffin Goldsmith lost his home in the Eaton Fire.

As the show progressed, Trevor Noah announced that $7 million had been raised for wildfire relief.

St. Vincent’s Role in the FireAid Benefit Concert

In the days leading up to the Grammys, St. Vincent participated in the FireAid benefit concert, one of the most memorable moments of the fundraiser.

She joined forces with Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) and Joan Jett for a special Nirvana reunion, stepping in as lead singers to fill the shoes of the late Kurt Cobain. This unforgettable performance featured:

  • Dave Grohl on drums
  • Pat Smear on guitar
  • Krist Novoselic on bass

This performance was one of the highlights of the fundraising efforts for Los Angeles wildfire victims, further showcasing St. Vincent’s commitment to using her platform for good.

A Historic Night for St. Vincent

With three Grammy wins, a moving tribute to her family, and an unforgettable performance in the Grammys’ wildfire relief opener, St. Vincent’s night was nothing short of extraordinary. Her artistic evolution and personal milestones have made this one of the most defining moments of her career.

As she continues breaking boundaries in the music industry, fans eagerly await what’s next from this multi-talented, genre-defying artist.
